CORPORATE HISTORY

Founded in 1975, Service Steel & Pipe is celebrating it’s 50th year of continuous business! Chuck Laborde, founder of Service Steel & Pipe recognized the need in the Shreveport Bossier area for a comprehensive metal service center distribution business. It was developed to meet the needs of the local business and industry in North Louisiana, Southwestern Arkansas and Eastern Texas. This area, at the time, was in a strong growth momentum for the oil and gas market. There were also several larger manufacturers moving to the area to support this opportunity.

Since its founding, Service Steel & Pipe has evolved into the premier metals distributor in the North Louisiana region.  In 1986, Sunbelt Metals, Inc. acquired the business and continued its mission to provide quality service with metals distribution.  From 1986 until 2021, Sunbelt Metals maintain the metals distribution business and its customer base through ups and downs in both the national and local economic periods for over three decades.
Corporate History

THE NEW DIRECTION

Being located in the heart of the ArkLaTex in Shreveport, Louisiana, Service Steel & Pipe needed local ownership to invest its capital back into developing and growing this well-established metals distributor. In late 2021, Service Steel Distributors, LLC was formed to acquire all assets of the company and build on the Company’s successes. A group of strong local business partners: Rand Falbaum, Patrick Harrison, Ian McElroy and Michael Young founded Service Steel Distributors and purchased the business with the intention to grow and expand its size, capabilities and market share. They have done exactly that!

Since this transaction in late 2021, Service Steel Distributors, LLC has been operating under its trade name dba “Service Steel & Pipe” with a new energized direction. There has been a laser focus established on better meeting customer needs while expanding its infrastructure, fleet and equipment. They have invested new capital into the following areas:

  • New SSP Safety Program implemented to improve and enhance company-wide safety
  • Newer, upgraded fleet trucks
  • New, more modern, and larger capacity processing production saws
  • Additional 8 acres of adjacent property (now 20-acre total facility)
  • Newly renovated laydown yard with engineered, compacted rock
  • Complete new fencing and access gates
  • Facility-wide new signage for traffic flow control and safety
  • New corporate logo and image created
  • Complete building re-painting and remodeling project
  • Inventory Expansion for better customer service and response time
  • Completely remodeled Will-Call Center and drive for easier customer access to customer pick-ups and retail sales

The new ownership is 100% focused on safety, customer service and delivering quality products every time. Service Steel & Pipe delivers within a 200-mile radius for the Shreveport/Bossier City area. Our deliveries a free to the customer with minimum weight requirements of 1,000 pounds locally to 5,000 pounds outside of 100 miles.

Service Steel & Pipe caters to many different industry types. From oil and gas, industrial mills, to manufacturing and fabrication, Service Steel & Pipe can help with “just in time” type production needs. In most cases, stock materials can be delivered the next day to customers. The will-call and pick-up center is available for quick pick-ups and turnarounds five days a week.

Service Steel & Pipe will continue to focus on improving customer service and adding new processing procedures to be able to cater to all our customers’ needs. Our long-term goals are to continue to grow and adapt to the local markets as needed and support our local business and industry with all their metal needs.
